Travel songs about California
Click for Google +1
California is home to dreamers, party-goers, pot-heads, sexy women, travellers and romantics. Well, that would probably be your view based on the songs written about The America's largest state, most popular tourist destination and economic epicentre (responsible for 13% of the America's GDP and 8th largest in the world - about the same as Spain or Italy).
LA Woman - The Doors
Is it a song about LA or one particular LA woman? Doesn't matter, a great travel song for visiting the City of Angels.
Say goodbye to Hollywood - Billy Joel
Sometimes you just have to move on.
California - Joni Mitchell
A great song about longing for home after you've been on the road a bit too long.
California Girls - The Beach Boys
A famous song about the West coast's tanned beauties.
California sun - Riverias
Spirited lyrics about heading to California and partying the nights away
Hotel California - The Eagles
Legendary, ubiquitous but still a song that captures the feeling of California's darker side. For the record, Colitas is a slang term for the buds of the Cannabis plant (Wamr smel of Colitas rising up through the air). According to Don Felder, the song was inspired by arriving in LA by road at night: 'if you drive into LA at night you can just see this glow on the horizon of lights, and the images that start running through your head of Hollywood and all the dreams that you have, and so it was kind of about that. Coming into LA.'
I left my heart in San Francisco - Tony Bennett
There is something about California that inspires songs of heartbreak and this is no exception.
LA international airport - susan Raye
From a period in history where jets were considered romantic, futuristic and novel. It would be an entirely different, and hardly flattering, song if the writer visited LAX today.
